Fort Worth, TX

Romanticizing about the Wild, Wild West? Experience it for yourself at one of the most haunted locations in Texas, Miss Molly’s Bed and Breakfast in Fort Worth. As featured in several haunted magazines and blogs, this is a location that not only transports you to the past but brings the past back to you. The hauntings of Miss Molly’s span generations of industries from legit to seedy and all the old clientele seem to still hang around. Investigators from around the world flock to the middle of Texas looking for answers to the afterlife.

With its humble beginnings as a boarding house built in 1910, to its more shady stint as a speakeasy during Prohibition then a bordello in the 1940’s—Miss Molly’s boasts a plethora of spirits dying to tell their stories.

Full-bodied apparitions of cowboys, a little girl and several of the working girls from the brothel are common occurrences around Miss Molly’s. Are they still looking for a little action or perhaps waiting to find the right ear to whisper about their demise?

Phantom scents, items disappearing and reappearing, toilets flushing, lights turning on and off of their own volition, cold spots, unlocked doors refusing to open, doors slamming, disembodied voices, bone-chilling EVPs (electronic voice phenomena)—there is a hotbed of activity that is every paranormal enthusiasts’ dream. They have even had staff members quit because of odd occurrences. A housekeeper that kept finding coins in rooms where guests had not stayed—she cleaned the room and returned to find the coins had reappeared!

All of the rooms have been connected with paranormal experiences by both staff and guests. A little girl that many believe was a former tenant has appeared numerous times in the owners’ private rooms. Guests have reported waking up to see a sultry blonde eyeing them from the end of the bed. The smells of perfume in the rooms and corridors that mysteriously appear. This is a location you’ll want to investigate, and you will not be disappointed in what you find! But the question that remains—will you last the whole night?

Cowboys, ladies of the evening, gambling and bootlegged booze—you may be having flashes of Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton but the chance to experience the wild, wild West for yourself only requires a jaunt over to Miss Molly’s in Fort Worth, Texas. Smackdab in the middle of the Fort Worth Stockyards is the oldest Bed and Breakfast in town.

In 1910, it was opened as a boarding house by the name of the Palace Rooms. With the livestock industry booming and dependent on the railroads, several folks traveled in and out of the area bringing with them a flow of wealth that caused the city of Fort Worth to explode. The Palace Rooms were for a classier clientele that circulated around the Stockyard and the flourishing businesses.

Classy is as classy does and often the times dictate exactly what that means. Like the rest of the country during prohibition, it became apparent that there was a greater need than just having a place for folks to sleep. At the turn of the century there were already 37 Saloons in the Stockyard district of Fort Worth and every last one of them would have been boarded up and shut down according to Federal Law. But the folks of Texas have always been a resilient and wily bunch that saw not only a way around the law but one that would bring in a wad a cash at the same time.

Under new ownership and a new name, The Oasis, the speakeasy padded the paws of local law enforcement (they were only a couple of generations beyond the call of States’ Rights anyway) and became the local watering hole for those same classy patrons and a few of the shadier ones as well. Gambling and drinking on the sly was only a step away from what was just around the corner.

In the words of Deputy Fred, “If you grew up anywhere in Texas, you knew at an early age that they were sellin’ somethin’ out there – and it wasn’t poultry!” The 1940’s brought a new owner, a new name and a new industry. The Gayatte Hotel was a famous brothel in the area where many of the young boys became men. Until Texas cracked down on Prostitution, the business thrived bringing in all sorts of clients.

Miss Molly’s Bed and Breakfast may have restored the classy and validity of an honest business, but some of the old clientele still have a way of showing up from time to time. Embracing the seedy past of the location, several antiques from the different eras and the theme of the rooms may have enticed the spirits to return to their old stomping grounds.

You may run into a cowboy, a young girl, or perhaps one of the working girls from the bordello. Turning a corner could transport you to a past that many folks thought long forgotten and buried. There are a lot of things still to discover at Miss Molly’s and this is one Bed and Breakfast that has several guests—not all of them alive.
