A highly recommended weekend experience
I am a bit of a sceptic but have accompanied my wife, a true believer, to many ghost tours in NSW. The Monte Cristo tour has been my favourite so far for several reasons.
I really enjoyed the stories of the history of the homestead, particularly the Ryan's attempts to purchase it and also of the restoration of what was at one stage a building in a very sad state of repairs.
It was great to get there early and be able to explore the outbuildings and grounds (also the following morning). The Ryan's hospitality was also wonderful, and their home cooked meals and comfortable accommodation much appreciated. The night time tour of the homestead, outbuildings and the grounds was also very interesting and entertaining.
Although I didn't have any experiences I couldn't explain on the tour itself, I did the next day when we visited the local cemetery to try and find the grave of the original owners, the Crawley's. To cut a long story short, a black cat showed us the way to their very hard to find grave in a very large cemetery as we were giving up after a long time searching.
We were very lucky to have taken the tour with Reg Ryan (since departed) and his son, but I have no doubt anyone would still enjoy this tour as much as I did.
